Crafting Roots with Threads
Who We Are?
We are Amber and Lulu – designers, long-time friends, and daughters of the land known as Yunnan.
Raised among its shifting light and layered hills, our earliest inspirations came not from textbooks or museums, but from the everyday beauty that surrounded us: woven baskets in markets, firelit processions in villages, the silent rhythm of mountains.
Where We Began?
Years later, our paths converged again — this time far from home.
We met in New York City, and continued our journeys through places that shaped how we think and create. There, immersed in a world of ideas and materials, we learned to see differently — to think through texture, form, and rhythm.
But even in those distant studios, something familiar kept appearing:
A curve that echoed the terraces of Yunnan;
A curve that echoed the terraces of Yunnan;
A palette that traced back to childhood cloths;
A dance of firelight;
and the ever-changing tones of foliage.
YarnGi didn't begin with a plan. It began with those quiet recognitions — a thread pulled between where we’re from, and what we were learning to become.
What Inspires Us?
We don't work from archives. We work from memory.
The feeling of mist rising between terraces.
The weight of wool on cold mornings.
The flicker of a red thread in the corner of your eye.
These impressions — visual, tactile, fleeting — guide how we design.
What We Hope You Feel?
To us, a cushion isn't just something soft to lean on.
It's a chance to carry a story. A way to make space feel quieter, deeper, more your own.
We hope our pieces offer a kind of presence — one that's quiet, rooted, and just familiar enough to feel like something you've known all along.
Home, wherever it may be,
is a story that keeps unfolding.
