Quiet Strength in a Loud City: Notes from ICFF 2025

The Javits Center has a distinct frequency. Beneath the glass ceiling along the Hudson River, the air usually vibrates with the sound of thousands of footsteps, conversations, and the restless energy of what’s next. Yet, amidst the scale of ICFF 2025, we found ourselves looking for something smaller. Something quieter.
We arrived in New York not to shout, but to open a dialogue between the mountains of Yunnan and the skyline of Manhattan. For three days, our booth became a pause in the rhythm of Design Week—a space where the speed of the city slowed down to the pace of memory.

This year’s fair theme, "Designing in Harmony," felt like a prompt written specifically for our collections. At YarnGi, harmony isn't just an aesthetic outcome; it is the tension between the raw and the refined, the ancient and the modern.

It was moving to watch designers and architects interact with the Tiger Lineage series. They didn’t just look; they traced the raised embroidery of the protective totems. In that tactile moment, the gap between a centuries-old Yi legend and a contemporary living room in Tribeca vanished. We saw firsthand how the concept of a "guardian" is universal—a narrative of safety woven into a modern object.

In an era of screens and smooth surfaces, the human hand craves irregularity. This week, we saw visitors drawn repeatedly to the Terrace Loop and Moon Weaver pieces. The sculpted wool blend of the Field Line bolster, echoing the rhythmic layers of the Yuanyang rice terraces, offered a grounding tactility.

Similarly, the layered appliqué of the Seven Stars lumbar pillow spoke of Naxi night skies without needing a single word. These pieces proved that true luxury today is connected to story and provenance—transforming the landscape of our roots into the texture of home.

The booth is now packed away, and the lights of the Javits Center have dimmed. We are returning to the studio with full hearts, carrying the energy of New York back to our quiet practice. The conversations we started this week affirmed that there is a place for "slow design" in a fast city.
