This pillow features hand–tie-dyed panels created by a minority dyeing workshop in Dali, Yunnan. The front is composed of a nine-grid layout, formed by alternating two distinct resist-dye patterns. Achieving such precision within small panels requires careful control of binding, dye penetration, and timing — a skill developed through long practice rather than templates.

The indigo surface is framed by a naturally frayed edge, hand-drawn from the fabric itself. This subtle irregularity preserves the material’s original character, allowing the craft process to remain visible rather than concealed.

The result is a structured composition softened by texture — technical, human, and quietly expressive.
